I brought one of my friends to my meditation centre, late one evening, just to show her the beauty of that place. I also introduced her to a monk, who has been my friend for over ten years.
This monk is rather eccentric and loves to talk and teach people meditation. His english is pretty broken but still understandable.
He told her something that was a very good way of explaining meditation. He told her to just close her eyes and just catch and let go.
I thought it was a beautiful way of explaining meditation. When you close your eyes and follow the breath. A lot of movements will distract you from the breath.
Pain, sadness, visions, sounds, aches, desires, hunger, desires, etc.. All you need to do when they pop up, is to catch and release them.
You don’t catch and keep them. You just catch and let go. Your awareness will see them. You will acknowledge them, let go of them and get back to the breath.
You don’t get involved with those movements. You just observe them as they come and go. The more you catch them and let go of them without getting involved, the less you will have to catch and you will only be left with that beautiful breath.
