Consistency and deliberate practice make you world-class at anything

I was watching a video a few days ago. John Danaher was being interviewed. For those of you who don’t know, John Danaher is one of the greatest Brazilian Jujitsu coaches on the planet.

His team is known as the “Death Squad” because they are known to be the cream of the crop when it comes to BJJ. John Danaher said that he is a firm believer in consistent and small incremental gains. He said that most of our lives are mundane and not glamorous.

The practice of becoming a world-class athlete is a lot of training, every day, and consistently over time. A lot of repetitions and a lot of slow incremental gains. He also said that a human being can get to a World-class level (top ten contender) in combat sport, in about 5 years.

For a lot of you, it might seem like a lot. Is it though? We are talking about a world-class level. Could you imagine going from starting something and be at the World Class level after 5 years?

Let’s say you were to train your mind for 5 years? in order to be a great law of attraction practitioner. Let’s say you were to practice the techniques, methods, affirmations, visualization, meditation, etc..

What will happen after 5 years? You would be a beast. People underestimate the power of disciple and consistency and do not trust in themselves and life enough. Yes, you need deliberate practice and you need to do the right things. Woody Allen said that 80% of success is showing up. We could even increase that number to 90% or even 99%.

What does showing up mean? It means you are consistent and deliberate with your practice. You have a game plan and you follow it. You tweak it along the way until you reach your goal/destination.
