 A few days ago, I recommended this book to a friend and she loved it.  Yesterday, I read for the second time and re-loved it all over again. Here is why I Ioved it.  This book is about 30 pages long.  You could read it from cover to cover in  20-30 minutes.  This is for all of you who think you don’t have time to read a book.



Don’t be fooled by the shortness of this oeuvre.  Don’t mistake its lack of length for a lack of quality. Short, sweet, straight to the point and impactful.  There is no beating around the bush. The title says it all.



The book is about loving oneself.  In a culture where nobody teaches us anything about self-love and an economy that thrives on our self-consciousness and insecurities, this book is a much welcome addition. 

 

I am actually jealous because I could have written this book but all credit is due to the author who had the courage to write a book that was seemingly not supposed to make any wave. The simplicity of just repeating over and over and over the mantra : “I love myself” is genius

It is so simple and yet so powerful and beautiful.  During the Nazi period, they used to say that if you repeat a lie often enough, everybody will start believing it.  So how powerful is repeating to your subconscious mind incessantly that you love yourself?

There might be some cognitive dissonance.   At the beginning, you might not feel comfortable or even  hate the practice.  Well, that’s when you know you have a problem loving yourself my friend.

Why is this practice so powerful ?

How many self-inflicted negative thoughts do you think you have daily?  You are probably not aware of the number but I can tell you one thing, for most of us, it is much higher than you would care to admit.

And that’s an issue because our thoughts do a lot for our well being and the energy we have each day.  Try repeating this mantra as often as you can and see how hard it is for negative thoughts to creep in.
Even when they managed to get through, just repeat the mantra and see who wins.
The I love myself mantra is the Mike Tyson of thoughts, it will knock out all other negativity you hold in your mind in a split second. 
The negative thoughts might win a round or two but they won’t last much longer.
You might also think that it is hard to consistently repeat to yourself a mantra.  Well, it is not harder than thinking bad thoughts most of the time.
You are just not aware of it.  You are thinking and thinking of bad things, as a result you feel like shit.  You are totally unaware of the process that takes place.
I decided to continue and be more consistent with the "I love myself mantra".  I practice a lot of things daily and I wanted to try this specifically because loving oneself is one of the most important thing one can do and one should do.  Nobody will do it for you.

Loving oneself is not narcissism, it’s not egotism, it’s not selfish, it’s compulsory or at least it should be. You might see the book cover and wince. 
You might read this article and cringe.  You might practice the mantra and feel ridiculous but hey don’t forget, saying I love you to yourself is no different from saying I love you to another.

Bear this mind.  For all of you who struggle with guilt, self-hatred, self-deprecation you would do yourself and the world a favour by loving more of yourself.
